Varigotti, a charming landscape destination and hamlet of Finale Ligure, famous for its beaches and the Saracen’s Bay, during the cooler season is one of the favorite destinations for trekking and unspoilt nature lovers.

The trail starts from the Borgo Vecchio, climb first in the hamlet of Pino, and then it reaches one of the most scenic points of our coast, between olive groves and Mediterranean maquis with the scent of helichrysum and rosemary.

Once on the path called “Balcone sul mare” (Balcony on the Sea) you can stop to admire the view of the Borgo Vecchio with its ancient pastel-colored fishermen’s houses joined together as in an affectionate embrace.

In the past these viewpoints were attended by sentinels to spot the Saracen fleets crossing the Mediterranean.

The walk proceeds passing through the ancient church of San Lorenzo and then reaching the end of the path on the Strada Vecchia (Old Road) to Varigotti.

We like to dream and imagine centuries ago when from the heights and the tower symbol of Varigotti, the inhabitants looked at the sea to see the Saracen fleets raging in the Mediterranean Sea. Nowadays perhaps it is more realistic dreaming to see some dolphin.

The walk continues passing by the medieval church of San Lorenzo and ends at the end of the path in Strada Vecchia (Old Road).

IMPORTANT NOTES

The itinerary is attended by an environmental hiking guide, a professional figure who has the main task of accompanying the participants illustrating the cultural, environmental, morphological and landscape characteristics of the area visited.

The trail is suitable for all those who like to walk with the presence of steep ascents and descents. Closed shoes with good soles, water, mask (for briefing and stops), hand sanitizing gel and a pen are recommended.
